Minimal user role: contributor
- Go to the species panel of the taxon you want to create a species page for (see paragraph starting with "Navigation..." on home page.
- To add a description or taxonomic data click on the 'plus' icon in the upper right corner of the 'Description & taxonomy' panel. (see also 'How to create descriptions faster ')
- Fill in as many data as you have.
- Choose a creative commons licence ('Attribution Non-commercial Share Alike' is usually the best for our data).
- If you are part of a group you can select the group this description should be part of under 'Advanced' > 'Groups'. However, you should also select 'Public' because otherwise only members of your group will be able to view this description.
- Click on 'Next'
- Under 'Discovered tags' you can choose with which terms this description should be tagged with. Under 'Terms to use', the correct taxon should be listed (if you need more terms contact i.brake@nhm.ac.uk). Drag 'n' drop terms you don't want in the 'terms to ignore' box. You can add other terms by entering the taxon name in the 'Additional terms...' field (for species you need to enter the genus name first!). A list of terms to choose from will appear as you type. Choose the correct one.
- Submit.
- To add images click on the 'plus' icon in the upper right corner of the 'Image' panel and follow the instructions. You can also add specimens, bibliographic citations and links to other websites. Check the FAQ at the Scratchpad site for instructions. To add a pdf of a paper, add the bibliographic citation and under 'File attachments' attach the file. If you have a bunch of citations in EndNote Tagged, RIS, EndNote 7 XML, EndNote 8+ XML or BibTex format you can also send me the file (i.brake@nhm.ac.uk) and I will import it under your name.
- To select which data to show in a panel, click on the 'sun' icon in the upper right corner of the panel. Just drag and drop items to show, hide and reorder content. You have to drag an item directly over another item to place it in front of this item. Large items are more successfully dragged if you click the mouse in the upper left corner.
